Rules of Thai- & Kickbox SuperLeague

All the fights on the SuperLeague events were contested under the rules of the governing body WFCA. It is a combination of Muay Thai and Kickboxing rules allowing athletes of both disciplines to fight under a unified rules set. Basically the rules are the same as those used in Thailand with the exception of the following techniques and moves:

  • All elbow techniques were not allowed
  • Backfists and spinning backfists were not allowed
  • Techniques to the back of the opponent were not allowed
  • Clinching whilst holding the opponent around the lower back was not allowed
  • Throwing
  • Slapping with an open hand

For the first couple of years all fights were five rounds of three minutes but later on three round fights were implemented in order to please the TV-partners and allow for more fights to be promoted at the individual events.
